Cat IV gliders

Hi everyone,
  I've been thinking about building gliders for Kibbie Dome since the first 1 hour or so is all for gliders and thats pretty boring for me.(no gliders..). For the Cat IV glider plans Ive seen, how come none of them aren't even close to the max wing area of 100 sq. in? Is it because its harder to launch as high? Weight?
