I would increase pitch.

  Subject: [Indoor_Construction] Rubber questions

My students have been using Tan SS rubber (01/04) to test fly their
planes, and also at the early levels of competition. They built a
prop with with a tissue tube hub so they could vary the pitch, and
easily try different combinations of pitch and rubber. This was most
  informative.

For the upcoming state competition, we are planning to use some Tan
II (03/02) that we had originally purchased during our first year of
SO competition. We started with a loop cut to the same size as the
Tan SS. To produce a no touch flight, they had to back off to a
lower launch torque. This results in a flight that is slightly
longer, perhaps 2:10 compared to 2:00 with the SS rubber.

Our question is where to go from here? They have been winding the
Tan II up to about 0.9 in-oz. on our homemade (calibrated with a
piece of balsa and a mass, but not checked otherwise) torquemeter,
backed off about 180 turns to launch torque of about 0.25. The plane
landed with very few turns left - the plane would sometimes run out
of turns 6 or 8 inches off the floor. Should we try larger or
smaller rubber? Normally we would just cut up a bunch of different
sizes, and try them, but we have a very limited stock of the Tan II,
don't want to waste any. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
