I have seen a lot of comments on the dangers of boron
fiber, some of which seem to be blown way out of
proportion. Take a look at the saftey and data sheet
from the boron manufactures
http://www.co2air.de/wbb2/thread.php?threadid=20732
for tips. According to the manufacturer, who would
want to cover himself as best he can to avoid
lawsuits, even say "boron is non-toxic with no
associated health risks". If you get a splinter, it
will work itself out on its own like any other
splinter of any material, and if it causes you too
much discomfort in the process, seek medical advice
like you would also do with any splinter of any
material. As close as I can tell, if you use a little
common sense, it is no more dangerous than any other
material that gives you splinters.

When I break boron to length, in order to avoid small
splinters, I fold a piece of tape over the boron where
I want it to break, and put a piece of wax paper
between the tape to make it easier to pull back apart.
Breaking the boron inside the fold of clear tape
contains the small splinters that may form, and this
can easily then be discarded. WEAR EYE PROTECTION as
you would when handling fine music wire to avoid
getting poked in the eye.
