Thanks Leo,

It may not be worth the effort (or expense) for me to go; especially with the Kibbee dome coming up.
Good cage shake! Some people keep trying to change (improve) things without bothering to think about the results.

All of the lightweight AMA/FAI duration classes (F1D, F1L, mini stick, and helicopter) are placed into two 6 hours time slots, totaling 12 hours, on Thursday and Friday (late afternoons and evenings). The other AMA/FAI duration classes are in two time slots on Saturday (afternoon and evening) and Sunday (early afternoon) totaling 13 hours. The scale events and the heavy "beginner" classes like P-18 get four time slots slots four competition days totaling 24 hours. The gliders have two time slots on Thursday and Friday totaling 10 hours.

However, among other things, the time slots and flying times allowed definitely do not take into account the flying duration times of the vari ous classes. Some lightweight duration planes will be in the air at times approaching (or exceeding) 30 minutes. Also, these AMA/FAI classes often make up the vast bulk number of entries at past indoor classes. Finally, make the same time slot for all the lightweight AMA duration classes makes it hard to compete effectively in more than one or two at this year's Nats.

Changing the number of days from five to four is not an excuse as the the daily flying hours have increased by at least two hours a day from past contests. This extra eight hours accounts for the lost day. time slot hours should have stayed the same. And yes, there is ample area at the site to allow for practice and test flights. But the competition time is much less in total for the lightweight AMA/FAI cl asses while very much greatly increasing in both total hours and number of days for the non-duration classes.
