Some notes on JRO

So I am going to post this from my perspective. I came to the contest for a single purpose: To fly with my son, Raymond, with his F1D Jr.

Saturday was classic dark and cold day West Baden.

Inside conditions were as bad as I have seen up to that point.

The dome was cold and we saw air falling in the center.

We struggled. A lot. It was really difficult to get to the top and times were pretty short.

The only good time we saw was a fluke - My launch got swatted down and the plane wandered off near the dining area, came near the wall and found lift. It never got higher than the circle of windows, but with the small circle it was able to take advantage of the lift, finally coming down landing on the counter behind the bar with a time of 11:39.

The next day conditions were much better. Raymond made a few flights in the 8 and 9 minute range, doing better with one of his two props. I finally beat the time ending with a high 12 minute flight. Jim Massey and I kept egging each other on and he beat that with a 13:11 IIRC.

I think Raymond learned a lot.

The F1D Jr. will easily climb to the top in West Baden with the right rubber and prop.

We got caught up in the rafters more than once.

I think it is a really good intro plane to F1D. Props will be king. Make a few.

 Regards.
