I've missed some of this thread, having been traveling. I've used reed switches, too, though for functions where bounce wouldn't matter. I wonder if your magnets or the geometry has changed, and the field is marginal. I would think that would more likely show up as missed counts, but since the reed switch works by having the reed attracted to the contact, maybe a weak field would let the reed bounce away instead of "sticking."
