I would think that as long as your hand is on the crank providing the torque, the feel you have for the rubber tension will be the same, regardless of the indicator you use. Of course, if you change winders, you'll see an effect of the length of the arm and the friction in the gears. As a humble turn counter, I just use that as a way to log what resistance I feel in the crank.
