Bong Eagle's Rantoul Hanger 3 Fall Contest ReportRespectfully submitted by Kurt Krempetz

        On October 1st and 2nd, 2016 the Bong Eagles held an Indoor Contest at Hanger 3(approx 44ft ceiling)  in Rantoul, Il.   There were 11 contestants who participated and had fun competing.  There were two seminar also held during the weekend in the Hanger.  A presentation on Glider Construction was given by Kurt Krempetz on Saturday and Sunday  Mike Kirda gave a presentation on Variable Pitch Propeller Mechanisms.     It gave the contestants the opportunity to take a break  from flying to listen and discuss some interesting concepts.    Mike and Kurt gave the presentations in hopes to stir interest in these subjects.   A video camera was rolling during these presentation but the camera did not run smoothly.     Mike will review the videos and possibly post something on the web for others to view.          As for the highlights of the contest,  Bill Gowen set a new AMA National Record in A6 with time of 7:54.  This time is 12 seconds longer than the present record also held by Bill set in April of 2014. When Bill wasn't busy flying A6 and Penny Plane , he and Kurt had a great glider battle.   Penny plane was the most popular event with Dudley Parker taking top honors, he worked hard each day making improvement on his model.    In the stick events, Jeff Annis posted some good times in both Hand Launch and Intermediate Stick.     In F1D  Leo Pilachowski  took home the Gold, Leo also  had some nice flights in F1L.  Three people tried the Mini Air Race event, no one was able to achieve 5 laps to post an official time.    Al Stone was able to complete three laps and took home the $40 he pledge to the winner of this event.    Mike Kirda had some nice flights with his Mashup and also flew his coconut scale model, which was a joy to watch fly.
