I think the newer TSS might be competitive at higher temps, i.e 90F+ where one might struggle to get 5/99 wound and loaded.
Not sure if we could do dual springs on VP mechanisms to take real advantage of the higher end torques.
Maybe it is time to take a look at variable diameter props again? Seems like you could add stops to get higher pitch that switches down as torque drops down, then come in for the cruise. A sort of hybrid system if you will.
