We use helium to fill the balloons (around 36" in diameter) that we use for steering the planes. Because of the drift and danger from hanging, steering is needed for the planes with longer flight times (F1D's, etc.). The contest does not provide helium at Kibbie so the fliers who want helium must organize the availability themselves.

 I am surprised at your question because I thought that helium was provided at the Round Valley Dome indoor duration events. Or, are you not the Steve Riley who helps put on the Round Valley Dome event.
