Johnson City status

I'm attaching two recent pictures of the interior of the Minidome and
making a suggestion about how to fix it.

Photograph 1 shows a view in line with the bar joists that span between
the main trusses. These bar joists are between 5' and 6' apart (I don't
remember the actual spacing). I count 23 spaces between the banners
which gives a distance of from 115' to 138' in that direction.

Photograph 2 gives a good view of the space between the main trusses.
The scoreboard (BBB to those who were around the first year) hangs from
the most central arched truss in the picture. If the scoreboard were
removed there would be two 62' bays completely open in that direction -
or about 124'.

So in round numbers - with the scoreboard removed - there would be a
flying space of about 120' x 120' x 112' high with almost no obstructions.

Why do I think this is a possibility? ETSU made the changes originally
so that basketball games could be played in the Minidome. It turned out
to be a poor site for basketball for reasons beyond this discussion.
Basketball games are now being played in the Freedom Hall Civic Center
in Johnson City and everyone involved seems to be happy with this move.
Without basketball games the scoreboard (as far as I know) is not going
to be used for anything.

So my proposal is to do whatever we can to get the scoreboard removed.
If money is an issue then I would be willing to contribute. If removal
of the scoreboard could be accomplished then the next move would be to
reserve the site for USIC 2016.

Any opinions?
