Gliders for USIC

I just got my copy of the latest NFFS eDigest. There's a plan for my Cat 2 record holding UCLG included which is all well and good, but in the index under the plan title there's a blurb that says "ideal for the Colorado USIC/Nats". This was possibly true for the glider before it was modified for Kent State. But at the current weight of about 10.5 grams it is much too heavy for the Colorado Nats. A weight of around 8 grams would be good for the Colorado site and is about what the BigPoker weighed before it was beefed up for the much higher Kent State site.

To get the BigPoker to a good fighting weight for Colorado the main change from the current plan would be to leave off all of the fiberglass reinforcing and use .020 carbon rods for the fuselage reinforcing instead pf the .025 rods shown on the plan.

The latest version of the glider uses Durobatics foam for the flaps which seems to work well and would be appropriate for an 8 gram version of the glider.

The BigPoker has a bolt-on wing for shipping and adjusting convenience. Being able to make incidence adjustments is vital for bunting gliders. A simpler method than bolts is the taped-on wing that Stan and Ralph use. I would recommend that any indoor glider use one of these systems.
