My fiber is actually Granoc XN-80, remains to be seen how that performs. On the scroll the tow seems to be spread about 5 to 6mm wide and flat, so if it turns out to be impossible to split, another option might be to wet it between some plastic sheets and then cut it into strips between the plastics.
