Many of us have our own ways of keeping the A2Z prop pitch gauge "tight." Brett Sanborn uses rubber bands. I routed a shallow slot on the plastic base, CA'ed in a 1/2" strip of magnetic stainless steel (from K&S products), and added neodymium magnets to the prop holder and angle gauge. This hold the pieces together well. John Kagan told me that he would just glue the metal strip to the top of the base (instead of routing) and then cut for clearance and the magnets on the prop holder and angle gauge. A picture of my setup is attached. One can also see the second, longer base I made to allow pitch measurements at more than 6" radii. BTW, I carry my pitch gauge to contests in a simple plastic pencil case that I bought at a dollar store.
