Re: New hub prototype

I recall the F1D team from Poland selling VP hubs in Johnson City
back in 1986 (I think that was the year) so it has been 28 years. In my
opinion (with my CD hat on) the VP hub/BOM discussion only pertains to
F1D, F1R, and F1M. For AMA events it is clear to me they are not allowed
and a BOM violation. The BOM line for AMA events I think is pretty much
established at a Harlan nose bearing (something you would find in a
typical kit). If indoor kits suddenly start being sold with VP hubs in
the kit, rest assured that someone will quickly get a rules proposal to
address that issue and put it up for a vote. The FAI has done no such
thing in 20+ years that I am aware of. That to me means the FAI clearly
has defined that VP hubs are not a BOM violation. If it was, then
something would have been done about it a long time ago. Since they have
not, I think I can conclude with some confidence that they feel it is
not a BOM violation and perfectly acceptable. So the standard used for
AMA events is not the same standard for FAI events. It does not mean I
approve with that difference, it is just a different standard. So until
the FAI makes a change to the BOM wording or comes out and directly
forbids the use of the hubs as a CD I can not stop the use of them no
matter what my person feelings are on the topic.

So for those who have asked my position as CD at the Kent contest coming
up in April, my position on purchased VP hubs is the same as it was last
year.

FAI events only: they are legal
For AMA events such as AROG, Int Stick, HL Stick, Pennyplane, ROG Cabin:
they are not legal
