There has yet to be a ruling from CIAM or any country's contest boards on their legality, however hubs produced by Orsovai, Treger, and others have been used in competitions worldwide for some time. The first commercial hub I know of became available at least 15 years ago. There was an official ruling by the contest director for the W/C and I think the last Euro's allowing commercial hubs.

They're also bought here in the US for research purposes in addition to competitive use.
