Re: Some college advice needed for a young flyer
Hi Evan,
During your career, the real growth in aerospace
engineering will not be in the development of
flight vehicles themselves but in new ways to use
them and the services or data that they
provide. E.g. the real revolution in UAVs iwill
not be in designing and building them, but in
finding new and productive applications such as
delivering packages or taking aerial photos of
crops to increase farm production. Just as the
real internet innovators were not the original
developers, but Yahoo, Google and Facebook.
That said, it's ok to take classes in traditional
disciplines like aerodynamics and propulsion, but
be sure to be well grounded in new enabling
technologies for the IOT (internet of things)
such as embedded systems and network communications.
Trust me, I've been an aerospace engineer for
almost 40 years and this is where the world is headed.
Best,
Steve
