Mike,
The plastic A-6 passed. Bill Gowen's proposal (IFF 15-1)did not pass but
the version I proposed (IFF 15-5) did pass 10-0. They were worded
differently, Bill's version had no restriction on covering, my proposal
was written to allow plastic but no microfilm and used the same wording
as used in the AMA book for EZB covering. The 50% stab rule barely
passed and I did not like that fact that the proposal as submitted
stated "no effect on current records" which was simply not the case at
the time the proposal was submitted as 3 of the four Open records were
set with a tandem A-6. At Kent Bill got the Cat II A-6 record so that
means all four Open A-6 records will be taken away from Bill if the 50%
proposal passes the final vote. Personally I do not see how a 100% tail
or 50% tail makes an A-6 more into what Clearance Mather intended for
the original A-6 model. The minute we stopped using tissue paper,
stopped using 1/32" wire, and stopped using aluminum tube nose bearings
and went to indoor bearings and 4# balsa and 10 minute flights we left
the "intended A-6 " far behind so A-6 has not been what was intended for
10+ years now. So not sure how suddenly the size of the stab makes any
difference especially since plastic is going to be allowed making weight
on a tandem a non issue. That proposal (IFF 15-12) was really three
proposals: 1) fix a typo 2) ban VPs and 3) 50% tail max. I think the
50% tail portion should have been its own separate proposal instead of
making the vote accept all 3 changes or accept no changes.
