Re: Re: Analysis of the new F1D rules
It is interesting that Don suggests using a small LiPo cell to rewind the rubber motor. A 400mg 5/99 motor has about 5 joules of stored energy when fully wound. A 10 mAH LiPo cell holds just over 130 joules of stored energy when fully charged. The currently available 10 mAH LiPo cells weigh just under 400mg. We could just leave most of the weight off the rubber motor and just use electric power to continually rewind a small motor on a new rules FUD plane. The smallest brushless micro motors currently weigh 235mg. One might just use the extra 200mg for an electric motor and drive the prop through a short motor that is continually rewound. Even with a great deal of inefficiency, this would sure throw a monkey wrench into shortening the flight times.
Just some idle thoughts,
