I think I had the opportunity to break the big news to Kang (while Ben
and Phil were right there, too): in the fashion of Pete Andrews (who
according to Williams' book took a walk in the hills of Cardington
during his decisive flight), poor Kang could not stand watching, but
disappeared from the site, and I bumped into across the far corner of
the mine. He had heard the applause given to Brett after his final
flight (and for reason, it was good enough to bump Brett into second),
and thought that Brett had taken the title. You should have seen his
face when he got the news how things really turned out.
