Chris,
 Heating does not help. The effect of temperature stratification is proof of this. A model changing altitude can show its motor's response to temperature changes in as little as 30 seconds, in my experience. Example: a model in a shallow climb hits the ceiling and falls about 5' because of a wall or light hit; it will often not even show a climb after recovery.
Bear in mind that the above example is from my testing in often rather extreme conditions. Fortunately most sites do not have a temperature of 120+ at the ceiling...

So if you want to set a record, building a Cat I site from corrugated steel in the southern US might improve your chances...
