Mike, it's worth noting that Jim Richmond has successfully flown his VD models on a 22+ in open setting. I'm not sure how all that works out, but I was flying a full 55 cm (21.5") open setting on my VD's back when I was flying VD, and there were no torque issues. If anything, the models flew better on VD than they did when I switched to VP, which imposes a lot of yaw troubles. I had to increase my dihedral, fin area, and wing offset once I went over to VP. As a side note, the current trend in VP is heading us toward 20" props. I don't know when that will come to fruition, but I've seen several fliers using 19.5" props in Cat III-IV sites.
