Hi Joshua.

First of all, as the starter in many ways of this thread, I wanted to share a simple perspective.

As a novice F1D builder, I wanted to make a prop. So I grabbed a hunk of wood and started carving a block. After several hours, I stopped and thought "There must be a better way." I did some searching and found the bandsaw fixture for cutting prop blocks. I have a bandsaw, I found a source for the blades and made fixture and sawed up a few.

For a while, I looked at that fixture and thought "What a waste!". Someone else could easily use it to make blocks too. I provide them as a service to the hobby at large basically for free. I *might* have broken even on my expenses at this point. The truth is I am happy to do this because I enjoy it.

I saw Brett's carbon blades at Johnson City. I thought they were cool, but they were beyond me. He finally wrote the article on making them. I was lucky enough to get the carbon when it was available. I got the ProSet epoxy when it wasn't in gallons. I have fiberglass from my other model making activities - I had some experience with composites, mostly in RC gliders. Buying everything, I am out a few hundred bucks.

In the end, I made up several molds and have carbon prop outlines on my bench ready to be made up into props.

Now I look at those molds and think "What a waste!. Someone else could be benefiting from them..."

Regards.
Mike Kirda
