Generally accepted good winding technique?

I was trying to show my kids how to wind better last night. One could get 2300 turns, the other only 2100 turns into the same loop of rubber.
As I think back on what worked best, this is what worked:

Stretch to maybe 5x length.
Wind about 1200 turns and target torque of about .3-.35 in-oz.
Begin to move in slowly watching the torque - try to keep it at or just under .4.
Dock it before winding to target peak torque of .8.
Back off to launch torque (.4-.5 range).

Roughly 19" loop of ~0.080" width - Sorry, didn't weigh it and not sure of breaking torque, but I know it will take 1 in-oz.

Regards.
