I haven't seen anything about people making tubes except for some
European glider guys. The ones used for wing posts are most likely
pultruded tubes that are commercially available in sizes from around
.028" up. Larger tubes for gliders are usually wrapped and are also
commercial products. Pultruded tubes are generally a little lighter than
solid rods but not drastically lighter. Some very old info I have shows
.040" rods at 29mg per inch and tubes at 20mg per inch. Current products
may be different.
