Vlad,

I only add platicizer in the glue I use for gluing rolled motor tubes
and tailboom. The glue I use for that is about 50/50 Duco acetone I mix
it by eye actually and how well it flows out the glue bottle and test it
on some trial pieces of thin wood for how well it adheres and how it
makes thin sheet curl up. If it curls too much I add an extra drop or
two then test again. I use the 1/2 oz IMS Type C glue bottle and when
about half full with the Duco/acetone mix I add in about 5-6 drops of
DOP as my start point, may add a few extra more drops but never more
than that as too much will make it soak into the wood and not glue then
the mixture is useless. So I I kind of do two glue tests on a new glue
batch , one test is a drop of glue on about a 1/4 x 1/4 piece of thin
wood ~.008" with a drop of glue in the middle to see how much it curls
when drying, a little curl up is OK then I also do an overlap test of
the same wood with about 1/16" overlap then let it dry and see it pulls
right apart easy or not. Too much DOP and it will act like you never
glued it. Once you do it once or twice you get the feel for it. I never
used TCP mainly because when added to microfilm as a plasticizer the
film would eventually fall apart over time so I figured I did not want
that in my glue joints, especially on a motor stick. The HLS I flew at
USIC this year used a motor stick I built 9 years ago and the glue joint
held just fine all these years so I am sticking with what works for me.
Hope this info helps.
