West Baden report and results

The West Baden contest was a rousing success! 16 world class and future
world class competitors signed up in advance and 16 world class and
future world class fliers showed up. Competition was at a very high
level with 3 AMA records falling and a few others in jeopardy all weekend.

Financially it appears that we will have a small surplus due to a late
contribution and also because we didn't have to use the second helium
tank. When I get the final helium cost from Walt I will post the final
numbers.

A bonus in our favor was that the hotel sold 19 rooms to fliers and
their friends and family. This is going to greatly enhance the
possibility of future events at the world's best Cat 3 site.

I'll second Mike Kirda's comments about the spectators. Every time I got
close to any of the hotel guests I was swamped with comments about how
incredible the models were. I've never been at a flying event where
there was so much interaction with people who had never previously seen
an indoor model fly. People would stand in groups (sometimes under a
landing model) and just look totally blown away by what they were
seeing. Spectators must have taken hundreds of photographs and videos.

I would like to personally thank all who attended for their high level
of cooperation and professionalism. You did a great, positive service to
our sport in general and to this event in particular.
