Re: carbon VP hub data?

Now that some of you are readying to build the carbon VP hub, I wanted to let you know that I have a second carbon VP hub that is slightly different that may have less binding:

"hub" -- use a 028/012 carbon tube
"spar rod" -- use .010" or .011" music wire

I think there is less binding because the effective contact area between the rod and the tube is halved. I have not flown this VP design, but it seems to be smoother going from high to low. Because of the .010" music wire for the "spar rod", this VP hub is slightly heavier.

The other reason I'm bringing up this alternate design is because some people were not planning to order the 028/012 carbon tube because they were going to use a hypo tube for the shaft sleeve. You should order the 028/012 carbon tube.

Because of the smaller diameter tube for the "hub", drilling the hole for the prop shaft may be trickier. We can discuss more if there is interest. I imagine Jake will have no problems.

My carbon VP hubs is a re-hash of the carbon VP's that other people have built, and I've only tried to improve upon other people's great ideas.
