I'm no expert by any measure, but here's my 2¢. I use 1/16 square sticks and make the tubes on a waxed 1/16 square brass tube. They're in the K&S rack at your LHS. Mark the strut position on the motor stick with a red pen, and apply a dot of Ambroid to it. Once the tubes are dry and cut to length, slip one onto the brass tube, add another dot of glue to the stick (to rewet things) and using the brass tube as an applicator, attach the paper tube. If the mandrel doesn't slip out easily, wait for the glue to dry.

I use tubes on both the wing and motor stick just for utility.
