Thanks Mark.
A quick check says the Basilca is the tallest dome in the world at 136m
(external) and the diameter of the dome about 40m. I didn't feel like I
could use a balloon and a string when I was there to measure the inside
drop to the floor from the dome... but the Nave/barrel vault parts are
impressive too.
The Sistine is smaller but smooth ceiling. About 20m. (And much prettier
than the average gym due to the interior decorator that was available to
them at the time.)
You know how important these buildings are to culture, religion and art -
but as an indoor flyer - and with no disrespect intended - you just can't
help looking at the ceiling in a different way to other people...
Way off topic.
I'll go build a carbon VP now
cheers
Tim
