Kevlar is used only for securing joints. The hinge is made by inserting a carbon rod inside the carbon tube.

I think that you cannot go wrong with the Steve Brown / Bob Randolph wood/polyspan (or tissue) VP hub.

My carbon hub may have some advantages, but it is far from proven.
