It has been a few years since I have attended the USIC, but the Mass launches used to be flown in rounds like you describe. When did it change & why? Perhaps too few entrants?

The problem lies in the fact that all of the mass launches at USIC are "sudden death", ie one flight, which is not in compliance with FAC rules which require a minimum of three participants, and two rounds for that arrangement, or three rounds for more than three participants.
