Boron Safety

Boron: Lighter than Aluminum stronger and stiffer than steel. It is also impervious to moisture, temperature and long term loading. An indoor modeler's godsend.

Early on, I got a roll of .004" from Curt Stevens. He mentioned that it was dangerous and to be careful. (Also don't sue him). The material safety person I asked thought it was a crank call. "They put Boric Acid in eyedrops".

Unless I'm having a Sr Moment, the danger related to a modeler snapping off the excess length onto a shag rug and then walking barefoot on the rug...duh. Appears that problem is similar to fiberglas, stainless or other inert materials that don't get absorbed by the body.

Using a few simple safety practices like eye protection with a well lit, white working area. For extra precaution, small "flags" of tape or peel-off lables can make the Boron extremely visible.

Outdoor models gained major performance and consistency going composite. Major performance gains are unlikely with the indoor events where it is allowed. It should improve ruggedness and consistency and level the playing field.
IMHO It would be a shame to ban this miracle material based on its questionable danger.
My opinion, H
