I was there for that record. At Bedford (Texas) Boys Ranch in about 1995. Jim was an outstanding flyer. He taught me most of what I know about indoor, and we flew together often.

By the way Bedford is a *true* category 1 site; that is, there is no flyable "loophole" airspace above the 10m circle. That loophole is really lame for low ceiling sites. It needs to be more like a 5m circle.
