I've always thought they were pretty good. My first Cassutt Nocal used one, and I was getting 2 1/2 minutes or so under a 25' ceiling...used modified Ikara 6" props on my Spruce Goose, and, well, that airplane speaks for itself.

Yeah, balsa is lighter. Ikara props are pretty durable, though.
