Agree, but even tradition is partly an aesthetic, emotional thing hard to codify into rules--such as, tradition that reaches back how far? We sometimes mean, "the way things wuz five years ago!" :^)
If FAI does clarify to allow pre-built VPs, perhaps a new improved AMA BOM may be our last bastion of (close to) good 'ole tradition. But I assume AMA F1d will have to defer to whatever FAI says regardless of whatever AMA BOM rule exists.
