The most common reason I want to abort winding & start over is because someone starts talking to me & I loose track of how many winds I have put in. Then the release is very handy. Recently, this even happens when the only one breaking my concentration is the little voice in my head.

I don't know either, but if you need to abort a wind-up in progress, or if you prefer to break-in motor by winding, TM release is pretty handy these days, too. I enjoy springing it when everyone else is too quiet.
