The shortage is for real, and has nothing to do with the government, as someone who worked as an engineer in high energy physics at the Stanford Linear Accelerator and medical imaging at the University of California Medical Center, I can tell you it might become a real problem, and not all that far away. Helium is very important.
I am semi retired now , but have a small prototype shop and own a TIG welder, and bottled helium has already gone up substantially.
Actually my biggest fear is the government gets out of the helium business, and it's privatized. Can you imagine what helium will cost if Standard Oil is the source?
