Got one--- too big for the material, it won't close down close enough to
support the material.

Their used to be "back supports" - mounted on the crossfieed with a pair
of rollers to support long turnings, maybe still around. Also, sounds
like a dull tool (wrong grind, maybe) or too ha=eavy a cut.

Also, how soft is the aluminum ?
