Don,

Interesting observation...a Hostler Fury Event....the Hostler Fury was
mentioned to me many moons ago as being the only competitive No-Cal...and maybe
outdoor P-Nut? That long fuselage is tempting.

I wonder if anyone in the context of a serious indoor flyer has done a
comprehensive evaluation of rules, performance of many events. When the
NOS-Gas outdoor FF event was promulgated...it had a cutoff date of 1960 for
design and then disallowed the 1959 Hunter Satellite because it was too good of
a flyer.

Picking a rules set for an event instead of trying to tailor an event for a
contest is a good idea. The No-Cal you mentioned and also the P-24 event
comes to mind in Colorado. We fly it but nobody knows what the rules are
other than a 24" measurement limit and a plastic prop. My daughter's
TSA/SO holds a better time than the MMM P-24 record...and both qualify in P-24,
but she flew a "P-24" in that event and holds that as well.

The USIC No-cal is a hybrid No-cal event. FAC rules require scoring as
best 3 of 3 flights and has no min weight. USIC is best 1 of 5 and 6.2 gram
min which has made the event essentially a Hosler Fury contest. I would vote
for adopting FAC no-cal rules and scoring for the event to allow more
models to fly and also to allow the winner of the event to get a FAC kanone for
winning. USIC is the only place I know of that still uses a min weight on
the No-cal model.

John: Dime Scale , and Modern Civil Production are in fact FAC rulebook
events , not NFFS . Also, Nocal is a FAC rulebbok event , but run at the
Indoor Nats by rules found in no rulebook. Paul Grabski
