Inspired by Kang (though I don't have a record of every single F1D flight
ever made) I went through Ian Kaynes' compilation of results of past world
champs and found some interesting facts about the past F1D world
championships that everyone may not be aware of.

The first world champs was in 1961.
1964 was the only year the world champs was canceled.
Since 1974, the average number of contestants is 34.
Since 1974, the average number of competing countries is 13.
The maximum number of contestants was in 51 in 1986, held in Cardington,
GBR.
Richmond has won 8 times, and achieved 13 podium finishes out of 15 WCs
attended.
Since the first world champs in 1961, the US has had 17 individual world
champions.
Since the first world champs in 1961, the US has had 13 2nd, places and 10
3rds.
Cezar Banks got second 6 times.
The US has had an individual podium finish at every single world champs.
There were three podium sweeps by the US, in 1984, 1990, and 1994.
Three people have ever been world champ more than once: Richmond, Brown,
and Treger.
