My guess is that a frame is constructed to the parabolic curve used for the wing. Any slack after covering would be drawn up by a brushed bit of thinned rubber cement parallel to the ribs. I like the looks of those models... IIRC, the spar is only like 0.040" thick with boron on the top and bottom. That was the part that seemed difficult to me...
