John,
I opened my Wilder many years ago & as I recall, the only difficulty was getting all the various shafts to re-align with their corresponding bearings upon reassembly, but apparently it is not to difficult since I was able to do it. I used some of the Dow Corning 3M grease that I was using for rubber lube at the time. I would think a white Lithium grease would be fine. I applied it to the gear teeth & the bearings. It did seem to smooth the operation of the winder, but it will get squished out from between the teeth so I don't know how long the benefit lasts.

I'm considering opening up my Wilder winder and lubricating the gears. Has anyone done this? What kind of lube did you use (lithium grease?)? How did it work out?
