Thanks, everyone, for the great information.

I'll start out by saying that I tried using pink foam, but I didn't like the end result. It digs in too easily, creating divots.

I then went to using a hunk of 2x4. I started with a hand plane, then quickly went to 1/2" hand chisel. About an hour later I am ankle-deep in curly shavings and it looks semi-reasonable. I think there must be a better way, maybe a spokeshave or small drawknife although holding it might be an issue.

I've found the article on using a bandsaw to cut them.

However I've not found blade recommended anywhere - 1/8" 14tpi appears to be the only one available. Does anyone have a source they might share?

Finally, a plug for A2Z - I ended up ordering their balsa stripper based upon the feedback here, plus assorted other goodies. They were a pleasure to deal with and everything was shipped quickly, packed well and arrived safely. Thanks, Tim, and please thank your crew for me.

Regards.
