My guess is that what holds many flyers back from trying an F1D with endplates is the difficulty in packing 4-6 wings in a carry-on airline luggage type of F1D box? They wouldn't stack close together like dihedral wings, they would have to be separated by the height of the end plate.
I've thought about endplates too and rejected the idea because of this practicality. I didn't want to spent 6 months or so developing a good endplate design and then have to put the wings in a huge container that goes in with the checked-in luggage...
I'm still thinking about it tho... maybe you could make them detachable with tissue tubes or glue them on each time... if you could keep the joins light enough...
