A lot of people who fly indoor models prefer to do things the
traditional way and the traditional thinking (right or wrong) is that
you should have A grain on the front of spars.

Gliders are different. C grain is used for high ceiling glider wings and
for the front part of flapper gliders because it's usually stiffer
across the sheet and resists high speed flutter better than A grain.
