No need to waste real spar stock for a proof-of-principle experiment. Just strip a dozen true A/C sticks into perfectly square 1/16" or 3/32". Rig up a stick holder and a ruler to measure deflection. Hang weights on other end of stick. Let stick rest. Rotate 90* to catch the other orientation. Test with same load and observe any difference in deflection rate or overall deflection. I this did a long time ago, but everyone should do it for themselves, since the same thing gets questioned time and again.
