I think that we have several different people who are talking about
different things. The original question wasn't clear and the answers
seem to be coming from different interpretations of the question.
*IF* the question is "will an *equal cross section* motor of more
strands have different characteristics than the *same cross section* of
motor with fewer strands" then the answer is there will be little
difference. I use and have extensively tested motors of 2, 3, 4 and 5
strands. As long as the finished weight and the finished length of the
motors are the same then there will be very little variation in the
maximum torque the motor will take, the maximum number of turns it will
take or the rate of energy release on unwinding.
If the question is "will a 2 gram motor made from 2 strands of .090"
rubber take more turns than a 2 gram motor made from 2 strands of .125"
rubber" then the answer is yes and everyone knows this is true. I don't
think this was the intent of the question.
