I test every motor I make. The destruction part usually happens when I'm flying.

  I fear that this is too simple a question, but is it fairly normal to make up extra motors and test them to destruction? Or are the number of turns for a given width length and type of rubber well known and destructive testing is a waste. Do temperature and humidity enter into the equation?
