Re: The demise of Indoor FF
Hi Rick,
Exactly, it's on us to boost participation. It would be silly for anyone to suggest that we can just "sit back".
And exactly, DeLoach is a rare kind of person. There aren't many people who have the kind of energy required to rally a critical-mass of participation. The likes of the late Doc Hacker in Cleveland, late Doc Martin in Miami, John Koptonak in CT, Andrew Tagliafico in ID.
Which is why it's a little dangerous to have him criticizing a new event like 1/2A and suggesting that Indoor lacks appeal. It's troublesome when someone of his influence perceives Indoor as a bunch of old farts flying events that only a few people have the talent to build, and thus needs to be "changed". That certainly isn't what I see.
New ideas are important. But we should also keep our "bird in the hand". For example, a great way to see if eliminating BOM will boost participation is to create a new event that doesn't have the BOM rule. Process of natural selection. Good if wins, fine if it doesn't.
There *is* a way for us to have our cake and eat it too (or, as someone I know says: "have our cake and ice cream, too).
